Democratizing Interoperable Health App Development
About the Project
As ministries of health and global partners invest in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), they face the challenge of fragmented systems and repeated, high-effort customization of foundational app components. The OHS Player is a cross-stack reference toolkit built on Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) to make it easier to build, deploy, and maintain FHIR-native health applications across Android, iOS, and web.
IntelliSOFT is one of several implementers contributing to the OHS Player’s development, alongside ONA and NAWI, as part of the OHS Software Foundation community.
Key Value
● Pre-built solutions for core gaps. Provides out-of-the-box, pre-configured assets for recurring, high-effort customizations such as user authentication (via Keycloak), advanced role-based access management, workflow orchestration, local notifications, and administrative dashboards.
● Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) Core: Powers cross-platform deployment by sharing core Kotlin FHIR logic across Android, iOS, and web from a single codebase, reducing the engineering effort required per deployment.
● Prevents vendor lock-in. By serving as a reusable implementation asset built entirely on open standards including HL7 FHIR and governed by the OHS Software Foundation under the Linux Foundation, the OHS Player helps nations establish sovereign, locally owned health data governance.
● Reduced development lead time. Equips engineering teams with a validated reference architecture and a “ready-to-configure” foundation, shifting the developer’s focus from building baseline database/sync infrastructure to solving local operational guidelines.
